Goal

Re-open older StarIntel / Quasar research and run additional research passes instead of treating old REVIEW-era conclusions as final.

A lot of this research predates the current StarLang architecture and the StarIntel v0.9 contract semantics. Reconcile it with what the system actually is now, expand thin feature analyses, and explicitly supersede obsolete implementation directions.

Required pass for every older research node

  • Re-read the current research node and its sources.
  • Re-check primary/current sources where the underlying technology or project has moved.
  • Reconcile the conclusion against current StarLang architecture and StarIntel v0.9 semantics.
  • State concrete StarIntel-server capabilities required, not just an external-project feature inventory.
  • State concrete Quasar operator/UI capabilities where applicable.
  • Separate core server responsibilities from pro-actors, plugins, and integrations.
  • Identify existing implementation so research does not propose features we already have.
  • Add at least one adversarial/negative pass: what is wrong, obsolete, duplicated, or architecturally misplaced?
  • Preserve older conclusions in the changelog rather than silently rewriting history.
  • Human approval remains authoritative; a research refresh must not silently revoke or expand implementation approval.

LISA / StarLang

  • LISA-RESEARCH-001 — DENIED. Do not extend LISA for this direction. Use StarLang in starintel-server; refresh/supersede the document so it points at the StarLang expert/logic architecture.

StarLang bulk approval

The following 25 StarLang research nodes are APPROVED en masse. Canonical approval evidence/recovery is tracked in #158. Refresh passes may modernize or expand them, but must preserve the approved research conclusion unless the operator explicitly supersedes or rejects it.

Quasar

  • QUASAR-RESEARCH-000 — APPROVED / should already have been approved. Verify canonical metadata and refresh against current investigation-workspace implementation.
  • QUASAR-RESEARCH-001 — VERIFY EXISTING FIRST; APPROVED FOR ANY MISSING GAP. Determine what transform/automation catalog capability Quasar already has. Do not duplicate existing functionality; if the capability is incomplete, the missing slice is approved.
  • QUASAR-RESEARCH-003 — APPROVED. Refresh against the current situational-awareness dashboard shell and implementation state.
  • QUASAR-RESEARCH-004 — APPROVED; ALREADY PRESENT IN SUBSTANCE. Reconcile the research with the existing dual actor-supervisor runtime instead of redesigning it from scratch.
  • QUASAR-RESEARCH-005 — SUPERSEDED. Record the current replacement architecture and stop presenting the old four-repository alignment plan as active.

StarIntel feature / actor research

  • STAR-RESEARCH-001 — NEEDS MORE PASSES. Current OSINT landscape is too abstract. Expand it until it states concrete features StarIntel needs, concrete Quasar operator/UI features, ownership boundaries, and priority tiers.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-002 — APPROVED; EXECUTE ASAP. Work the Awesome OSINT backlog, refreshing stale provider/tool assumptions as work proceeds.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-003 — REWORK REQUIRED. Convert the design/research from a Prolog-specific inference actor into a StarLang expert-engine actor. Prolog is a selectable backend, not the actor architecture.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-004 — SUPERSEDED BY STARLANG. Replace the internal-Prolog-server-library direction with the current StarLang logic/expert-engine boundary and point to the canonical replacement.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-005 — APPROVED. Discord Watch Common Lisp port.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-006 — APPROVED. CL Discord Self Common Lisp port.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-007 — APPROVED WITH EXPANSION. Expand ontology foundations against the current StarIntel v0.9 contract semantics, including entities, predicates/relations, provenance, validation/conformance, actor-facing semantics, and compatibility boundaries.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-008 — APPROVED. BEAM/LFE large-scale ingest contingency remains an approved contingency/research direction.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-009 — APPROVED; PLACE IN pro-actors. Thunder audio/weather geolocation belongs in pro-actors, not starintel-server core. Integrate through actor/runtime boundaries.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-011 — APPROVED WITH ANOTHER RESEARCH PASS REQUIRED. Expand lifecycle/state, provenance/confidence, actor/human ownership, dedupe/merging, evidence links, escalation/priority, StarLang mutation/query semantics, persistence/audit, Quasar triage UX, and v0.9 alignment.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-012 — APPROVED. Plain-language decision: if two or more sources say the same thing, StarIntel keeps one copy of the fact but still remembers every source that reported it. Continue research on source independence, copied/syndicated lineage, near-duplicate mapping, v0.9 provenance, StarLang ingestion, and Quasar presentation.

Lease stack

  • STAR-RESEARCH-029 — APPROVED / should already have been approved. Refresh distributed target lease/fencing research against the implementation now in starintel-server, current v0.9 target semantics, and current runtime boundaries.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-030 — APPROVED / should already have been approved. Refresh backend-neutral KV lease-store assumptions against the current adapter/runtime and verify no stale Valkey/topology assumptions remain.
  • STAR-RESEARCH-032 — APPROVED / should already have been approved. Refresh authenticated lease HTTP/execution research against the actual current API/auth/fencing implementation and identify remaining gaps.

Approval-state recovery for STAR-RESEARCH-012, 029, 030, and 032 is tracked in #157. The migration showing PENDING is stale bookkeeping, not an operator rejection.

Scope expansion

After the explicit seed set above, inventory older roam/research/star-server/, relevant roam/research/star-lang/, and Quasar research nodes. Prioritize documents whose assumptions predate StarLang, v0.9, current actor boundaries, current Quasar implementation, or current repo ownership.

The refresh should be iterative: one pass to reconcile architecture, another to compare against actual implementation, and another adversarial pass where the node is old/thin/high-impact. Do not stop at superficial wording updates.

Done when

  1. Every operator decision above is reflected in canonical research metadata/index state.
  2. Older research has been inventoried and prioritized.
  3. Each selected stale node has at least one new substantive research pass; high-impact/thin nodes get multiple passes.
  4. Thin/abstract findings have concrete feature and architecture consequences.
  5. Superseded directions point to the current replacement.
  6. Approved conclusions remain human-gated; additional research does not silently turn into implementation approval.
  7. Core vs pro-actors vs Quasar/plugin ownership is explicit.
  8. Index/status pages reflect the refreshed state and do not present stale REVIEW/RESEARCHING labels as current truth.
